Rep Fitness FT5000 2.0 Review: A Quick Look

Taking a closer look at the REP FT-5000 2.0 Functional Trainer, I find that it is a more compact alternative to the bulky and large commercial-grade functional trainers like the Life Fitness Dual Adjustable Pulley. REP has created a commercial-grade functional trainer with dimensions suitable for home gyms, with a height of just over seven feet and a maximum width of 68 inches. This size makes it compatible with most home gyms, especially those with lower ceiling heights.

While the FT-5000 2.0 introduces some improvements over its predecessor, such as a higher trolley travel height, lighter trolleys, and aluminum pulleys, I expected more innovation from REP. Nevertheless, it remains a solid functional trainer that I recommend, even though I would have liked to see more in a 2.0 version.

Our Tips

Before we explore the features and benefits of the FT5000 2.0, let me share a few tips to maximize your experience with this incredible functional trainer:

  1. Assembly can be time-consuming and requires at least two people due to its size.
  2. The provided polymer D-handles may not meet everyone’s expectations in terms of grip and feel, so exploring other handle options might be necessary.
  3. The weight stacks are measured in kilogram increments, resulting in 11-pound jumps instead of a more even 10 pounds.

Pros

  • Sturdy build quality
  • Versatility for a wide range of exercises
  • Smooth operation with fluid cable and pulley system
  • Includes a variety of attachments for customization

Cons

  • Higher price range
  • A large footprint may require ample space in the home gym

Overall, the REP FT-5000 2.0 Functional Trainer is a good choice for home gym owners who want a functional trainer. Even though it is better than its predecessor, I hoped the 2.0 version would be more creative. Even so, it’s still one of the best useful trainers you can get for the price.

Is The REP Fitness Functional Trainer 2.0 Worth It?

Absolutely! The FT5000 2.0 is worth every penny if you’re serious about getting in shape and want a piece of equipment that can do a lot of different things and lasts a long time. It is a game-changer for home gyms because of how well it is made, how smoothly it works, and how many exercise choices it has.

Using The REP Fitness FT-5000 2.0

rep functional trainer ft5000

One standout feature of the REP FT-5000 2.0 is its versatile pull-up and chin-up options. The trainer offers multiple grip positions, including wide, narrow, and neutral grips, allowing users to target different muscles in their back, arms, and shoulders. Adding these grip options enhances the equipment’s overall functionality and workout possibilities.

The partially assembled shipping of the FT-5000 2.0 is another advantage. While assembly can still be time-consuming, receiving the trainer partially assembled saves you the hassle of starting from scratch. However, it’s important to note that due to its size and weight, it’s recommended to have at least two people assist with the assembly process.

Weight Stacks

The FT5000 2.0 has two 220 lb weight stacks, so your workouts will have plenty of force. If you are an experienced lifter, you can increase each stack to 300 pounds. This means that as your strength grows, you can move forward and give yourself new challenges.

Cables And Pulleys

With the FT5000 2.0’s 28 pulley settings, you can change the height and angle of the cables to focus on specific muscles. The smooth working of the pulleys ensures that the machine works consistently and reliably, improving your workout as a whole.

Attachments & Accessories

Rep Fitness knows how important it is to customize. The FT5000 2.0 comes with a variety of attachments, including a straight bar, D-handles, ankle cuffs, and more. These extras let you do a wide range of workouts and help you reach your fitness goals.

Assembly and Footprint

Even though the FT5000 2.0 is a big piece of equipment, putting it together is simple. The assembly is easy because the parts are labeled, and the directions are clear. But remember that the machine takes up a lot of space so ensure you have enough room in your home gym.

In terms of durability, the FT-5000 2.0 lives up to REP’s reputation. The 11-gauge steel frame is sturdy and built to withstand rigorous workouts. The chip-resistant powder coating adds an extra layer of protection, ensuring the equipment’s longevity.

Additionally, the included lifetime frame warranty provides peace of mind for customers, demonstrating REP’s confidence in the trainer’s durability.

However, there have been occasional reports of inconsistent craftsmanship, where some customers have experienced issues with the pulley system, cables, or other components. While these instances seem to be in the minority, it’s worth considering before purchasing. It’s always a good idea to thoroughly inspect the equipment upon arrival and contact customer support if any issues arise.

Another potential drawback is the starting weight of the weight stacks. The FT-5000 2.0 comes with 220-pound weight stacks, which may be too heavy for certain isolation exercises or beginners just starting their fitness journey. Keep this in mind if you primarily focus on lighter-weight training or anticipate needing lower starting weights.

Ordering and Assembly Experience of the REP FT-5000 2.0 Functional Trainer

When the FT-5000 2.0 showed up at my door, I was glad to see that it came in a single box and was already partly put together. This streamlined shipping process made things much easier and got rid of the need for a forklift during unloading. Compared to some competitors, who tend to ship their goods in a more complicated way, it was a nice change.

However, I must admit that the assembly of the FT-5000 2.0 posed some challenges. Despite having prior experience with assembling functional trainers and other equipment, a knowledgeable coworker faced difficulties with this particular machine.

According to REP’s instructions, two people should be able to complete the assembly in about two hours. However, in our case, even with our expertise, it took us twice as long to finish the task. It seems that we were not alone in facing assembly issues, as several customer reviews also highlighted the complexity of the instructions. The main source of frustration was the poorly explained cable routing through the pulley system, which appears to be a carryover from REP’s earlier version of the functional trainer.

Throughout the assembly process, we encountered some inconsistencies in the build quality, which was unexpected considering our positive experiences with recent REP Fitness products. One notable issue we encountered was stripped screws for the movement placard, requiring us to spend additional time creating new holes. Additionally, we noticed uneven and inconsistent welds in certain areas, particularly on one of the pull-up grips.
